An ancient Aztec Death Whistle has been found to make the "most terrifying sound in the world". Civilisations that thrived in Mexico, such as the Mayans, were known to have dangerous objects. This whistle is being touted as the scariest of them all. It was discovered in 1999 when archaeologists dug up a site and found a sacrificial victim buried with it.
The Aztec Death Whistle is believed to be over 500 years old. It looks like a normal object but produces a horrifying shriek when blown into. Scientists believe that the whistle is able to make such a sound because of its inner construction which creates a sound at a similar frequency as one produced by a human screaming.
Its inside looks almost like the human larynx. This lets it produce a sound around the frequency of 1 kHz. Studies suggest that this is the same frequency as screams that are let out by humans when in a state of fear.
Its terrifying sound was reportedly used to scare off animals and other human beings in ancient Aztec times. It seems odd to think that a mere whistle could scare off someone. But its sound has been termed terrifying and everyone who hears it agrees.

Some people on social media even wonder whether the sound they are listening to is actually coming from the whistle or an animal. However, others admit to being scared on listening to the whistle's sound.
A user on social media wrote,"That scientist must've gotten the biggest jump scare ever" when they heard the whistle for the first time. Another user wrote, "Just imagine hearing this at night in a deserted place."
Aztecs was the greatest empire to rule over Mexico and reigned for over 300 years. It was the last great Mesoamerican empire, which crumbled when the Spanish invaded in the 1400s.
They were known for their acts of barbarity. Mass human sacrifice also seemed to be commonplace during their time, and the Aztecs are estimated to have sacrificed 20,000 people a year.
