Zelensky added that Russian strikes have become “even more vile” now, adding that Moscow is taking advantage of the fact that the Middle East is getting more attention currently.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he asked his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron for additional air defence systems and missiles during a call on Sunday (Oct 12). Zelensky added that Russian strikes have become “even more vile” now, adding that Moscow is taking advantage of the fact that the Middle East is getting more attention currently.
“I spoke with President Emmanuel Macron. I am grateful to France for doing so much to defend life,” Zelensky said in a social media post.
He added, “I informed him about our priority needs – first and foremost, air defense systems and missiles. Russia is now taking advantage of the moment – the fact that the Middle East and domestic issues in every country are getting maximum attention.”
The Ukrainian president further stated, “Russian strikes have become even more vile. We discussed how to counter this. In particular, we are working to expand the PURL initiative.”
“We also coordinated our contacts with other partners and our diplomatic steps for the coming weeks. We are working to increase pressure on Russia,” he added.
Zelensky also spoke with US President Donald Trump for the second time in two days and discussed a range of topics.
“Yesterday, we agreed on a set of topics to discuss today, and we covered all the aspects of the situation: defense of life in our country, strengthening our capabilities – in air defense, resilience, and long-range capabilities. We also discussed many details related to the energy sector. President Trump is well informed about everything that is happening,” he said. “We agreed to continue our dialogue, and our teams are doing their preparations. Thank you!”
A day earlier, Zelensky called on US President Donald Trump to broker a ceasefire in Ukraine, hailing his success in securing a peace deal in the Middle East, during a phone call. He added that if a war can be stopped in one region, then other wars can also be stopped, including the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
“I had a call with US President Donald Trump—a very positive and productive one. I congratulated @POTUS on his success and the Middle East deal he was able to secure, which is an outstanding achievement. If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well—including the Russian war,” Zelensky wrote in a post on X.
