France's World Cup-winning coach Didier Deschamps won FIFA's best coach of the year prize on Monday.

The 49-year-old led his team to success in FIFA World Cup 2018.

Deschamps hailed his team for their brilliant performance in the world cup, he said, "Without the staff, it's difficult for the manager or the coach. so it's an individual reward but which also rewards the work of many, many people, and above all it's all thanks to the players.

"And I also think it's an important trophy for the federation, for my president, for all the French federation, who do their utmost every time to put us in the best conditions.

"So I've never been too used to individual rewards, even when I was a player, and seeing the other nominees with Zinedine Zidane and and Zlatko Dalic, there are many other coaches or managers who would have deserved this trophy, but I am very proud."

Deschamps beat off competition from Zlatko Dalic, who led Croatia to the World Cup final before losing 4-2 to France, and his former French team-mate Zinedine Zidane, who won a third consecutive Champions League title with Real Madrid before resigning in June.
