The Indian Air Force on Wednesday tweeted out reiterating that Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman is not present across social media platforms.

The tweet also brought to light the existence of six fake social media accounts in Captain Varthaman's name.

"Fake Accounts: Wg Cdr Abhinandan Varthaman does not have a social media account on any portal (Facebook /Instagram /Twitter). Please avoid following any fake accounts being used in the name of any IAF Airwarrior for spreading misinformation. Jai Hind!!!" the tweet read.

The force also stated that misinformation on the shooting of Pakistan Air Force F-16 by MiG-21 Bison is also being spread on various social media sites.

"IAF during the press statement on 28 Feb 2019 had clarified that one F-16 of Pakistan Air Force was shot by MiG-21 Bison and it fell across the LoC," news agency ANI carried IAF statement.

After almost three days of custody, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman crossed the Wagah-Attari border last Friday and walked over to India amid heavy security.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot was shot down when he was involved in a dogfight with Pakistani jets after it entered Indian airspace last Wednesday. Wg Cdr Abhinandan was apprehended by the Pakistani Army even as India declared that it won't negotiate his release.
