The train driver and Northeast Frontier Railway officials too lauded the father-daughter duo for averting a major accident.

It was a sequence straight out of a Bollywood movie. A man and his daughter in Tripura saw a stretch of railway tracks affected by the incessant rains and waved their clothes towards the train indicating danger, saving lives of over 2000 passengers.

On June 15, Swapan Debbarma of Dhanchara village, along with his daughter, was passing by the railway line in Ambassa when he saw that a portion of track had been washed away. Sensing imminent danger, Debbarma and his daughter waved their shirts to stop the train.

The alert train driver noticed the father-daughter duo and brought the train to a halt.

In a heartwarming gesture, Health and Science and Technology Minister Sudip Roy Barman invited the man and his daughter to his house over breakfast.

He then took them to the Tripura Assembly, where the heroic act was praised by members of the House as Debbarma and his daughter sat in the VIP gallery witnessing the proceedings.

Chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb said his name will be recommended to the Central government for an appropriate award and acknowledgement.

In no time the incident went viral on social media winning hearts. Ace cricketer Virender Sehwag also acknowledged their efforts and tweeted about it.

Meanwhile, Debbarma who earns his livelihood by selling forest resources like firewood and bamboo in the local market, says he hopes to get a government job, which can help overcome poverty and improve lives of his family members.
