Over 100 Pakistani Hindus granted Indian citizenship, several applications still pending

Over 100 migrants from Pakistan's Sindh province who were living on a long-term, visa in Jodhpur were granted citizenship in Rajasthan, reports said. However, many thousands are still waiting for their applications to be processed.

The wait for the rest of the migrants has been a torment as the district administrations are still waiting for the report of Intelligence Bureau and the Long Term Visa (LTV) related details, which are mandatory for giving citizenship to them.

All the preparations were made and people had also come for getting the citizenship. However, the IB report and other details were not received, reports said.

A few days ago, department of home had convened a meeting to discuss the issue of granting citizenship to Pakistani Hindu migrants.

Hindu Singh Soda, President of Seemant Lok Sangathan who has played an active role in highlighting the plight of the migrants, said directions to give them citizenship was issued way back in December 2016, reports said.

West Pakistan refugees are those who migrated from West Punjab, Pakistan during the separation of India and Pakistan. As per official date around 47,915 people had migrated from West Pakistan in 1947 to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
