With the GST Council meeting underway, Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar that at least 227 items were there in 28% GST slab, now only 50 remain, which are mostly luxury items, rest have been put in the 18% bracket.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam finance minister added that GST meeting will be "path-breaking with many crucial decisions in favour of traders, manufacturers and consumers."

Earlier, finance minister Arun Jaitley had defended the multiple slabs under the Goods and Services Tax.
The GST -- which was meant to replace India's myriad indirect taxes with one single tax -- has come under severe criticism.
Jaitley said that bringing everything under 18% GST would help those buying luxury items.
