Watch: Restaurant at end of historic Southern California pier catches fire

A vacant restaurantlocatedat the end of a historic pier in Southern California caught fire on Thursday (Apr 25).
Thepierstretches over 1,900 feet, allowing visitors to walk out over the ocean waters.
In a post on X, the Oceanside Fire Department asked citizens to stay away from the affected area.
"We have made good progress on the pier fire.We willbe workinginto the dark to complete extinguishment andto ensure thatthe fire does not rekindle.The fire hasbeen containedto the end of the pier," the department said.
"Still working the pier fire. Crews will remain working through the night to ensure it remains confined to the end of the pier," it added.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
A report by Fox News said that the pierwas builtin1888,and has been a focal point ofOceanside.
A video of the fire showedsmoke billowing up over thepier, which couldbe seenfrom as far as Vista, 10 miles east, and Der Mar, 20 miles south.
The fire also appeared to have spread to Brine Box, a fish shack at the end of the pier, the report added.
