Norway Chess: R Praggnanandhaa fine form continues, stuns world champion Ding Liren in Round 7
Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa'sfine form continuesin the ongoing Norway Chess tournament as he recorded another big win. In round 7, held on Monday (June 3), Praggnanandhaa beat world champion Ding Liren inan Armageddon tiebreaker. The 18-year-old made heads turn with his composure through the classical game and made full use of an opportunity in the tiebreaker to create more pressure on Liren, who looked off-colour throughout the tournament in Stavanger. The victory comes after Praggnanandhaabeatworld number oneMagnus Carlsen and second-ranked Fabiano Caruana earlier in the tournament.
The win follows a commendable effort from Praggnanandhaa, especiallyafter losing to Frenchman Firouzja Alireza in the Armageddon tiebreaker earlier in the day. The official handle of Norway Chess on X, formerly Twitter, shared the video of the Indian youngster's win over Liren.

With the win over Liren, Praggnanandhaa has moved to the third spot in the six-man Open Section of Norway Chess with a total of 11 points at present. Notably, he is 2.5 points behind leader Carlsen whereas America's Hikaru Nakamura is in second spot with 12.5 points. Thus, the teenage sensation has kept his hopes alive of winning the prestigious tournament with some big wins up his sleeves already.
It is to be noted that Praggnanandhaa has two outright wins and two Armageddon wins so far in the competition in Stavanger. The Chennai superstar will now lock horns withCarlsen in the reverse fixture. The upcoming battle will give a more clear picture of Praggnanandhaa's chances of winning the tournament. It won't be easy against Carlsen, who will be desperate to settle scores with the Indian star.
