Indian football skipper Sunil Chhetri struck twice to beat Kenya 2-0 as India liftedthe Intercontinental Cup 2018.

Chhetri was at his very best during the final game as he went on to hita goal in the 8th minute at the Mumbai Football Arena.

It was off a ricochet during a free-kick from outside the box. Sunil was at the right place at the right time and then his finish is next to none. He found the back of the net to get India in the lead.

The second goal took Sunil on equal terms with Messi in the highest number of international goals scored by active players list.

Sunil needing another goal could not find it in the first half as India went into half-time with a 2-0 lead.

The two goals today makes it 8, his highest number of goals in a tournament.

Minutes before the break, India had the chance to make it three when they were awarded a free-kick from a lethal position. Stepping up for the free-kick, Chhetri, however, sent the ball over the crossbar.

The second-half started off with Gurpreet Singh Sandhu showcasing his skills as he pulled off a stunning save in the 48th minute.

Kenya’s Ovella Ochieng released a shot from inside the box which saw Sandhu diving to his right to deny Kenya a way back into the tie.

Gurpreet stole much of the limelight of the latter half with his saves which kept India’s lead intact. At the final whistle, the Blue Tigers got the better of Harambee Stars to clinch the championship.
