Barcelona defeated their biggest rival Real Madrid at Bernabeu 1-0 on Saturday to extend their La Liga lead over them to 12 points.

Ivan Rakitic scored in the first half to give Barca a delightful win but despite the victory, Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde said that Real Madrid cannot be ruled out of the title race.

While addressing the media, Valverde said, "There's a world ahead of us. Not only because we know that Real Madrid are capable of winning many matches in a row, but also because Atletico Madrid are there."

"We respect our rivals like our rivals respect us. And as long as maths don't say that it's over, we have to keep fighting."

"When there are so many games left, it's absurd to indulge in this kind of thoughts, because the moment you start thinking this way, that's the moment you start losing," he added.

Barcelona now own 96 victories in this fixture to Real Madrid's 95, the first time they have been in front in 87 years.
