Two suspects arrested in connection with murder of former Shiv Sena corporator Ashok Sawant yesterday outside his house in Kandivali, vehicle used in the crime seized. Investigation on: Zonal DCP #Mumbai— ANI (@ANI) January 8, 2018
Ashok Sawant was stabbed outside his house in Kandivali while he was on his way home after meeting a friend.
Two assailants, who were waiting outside his house in a vehicle, approached him and stabbed him with choppers when he was barely 200 meters away from his house, media reports had said.
Mr Sawant was later taken to the nearest hospital of the area where he was declared dead by the doctors.
A case under section 302 of Indian Penal code has been filed.
Police have started investigating the case by watching CCTV footage of the area.
It is suspected that the murder was a fallout of the extortion calls which he received a few days back and complained to the police about.
