Netizens were left utterly confused as were we after Mukesh Khanna who played Indian superhero Shaktimaan, called a press conference to discuss the future of the iconic character that entertained us in the 2000s when TV meant only a handful of shows and programs.
Mukesh Khanna stirred the debate on who will look great as Shaktimaan as he started off by talking about himself and how he looks the best as the TV character. He then teased that a new Shaktimaan film/show is in the works and that there will soon be great news for Shaktimaan fans who have been waiting for a spin-off or sequel.
Mukesh Khanna not keen on hiring Ranveer Singh as Shaktimaan
Things however went haywire when it was reported earlier this year that Ranveer Singh was being considered for the part and a lot of social media users found his casting apt and suitable. This is where things got out of hand as Mukesh Khanna said that he would never let Ranveer Singh portray the iconic role. He said Ranveer neither had the face nor the character for the role.
Cut to now, Mukesh Khanna is back teasing some news about Shaktimaan’s return. Sharing a picture of Shaktimaan on X, Mukesh wrote in Hindi, “Lo main aa gaya (Here I come) Shaktimaan Returns.” Mukesh wrote in the caption, “I have come to clarify a misconception which a section of my viewers are started having that through this song and press conference I had come to declare to the world that I will be the next Shaktimaan. Totally wrong. Let me explain.”

Mukesh said, “Firstly why should I say Iwill be the next Shaktimaan? I am already the Shaktimaan. There would be another Shaktimaan only when there is a Shaktimaan. And Iam that Shaktimaan. Without me, there can not be other Shaktimaan. Since as Shaktimaan, I have to create the Legacy of Shaktimaan. Secondly, Ihave not come to prove or show that I am better than Ranveer Singh or anyone who will wear the mantle of Shaktimaan. Become the next Shaktimaan.”
On why he teased Shaktimaan’s return as himself in the role, he said, “I came as older Shaktimaan to pass on a message to today’s generation only because I felt older Shaktimaan will be in a better position to do that than the new one because the older Shaktimaan already has a readymade audience for the last 27 years.”
“I came with a patriotic quiz song as older Shaktimaan because I can and everyone should clearly see that Darkness and Evil is prevailing over children of today. In Shaktimaan’s language it can be said - 'Andhera kaayam ho raha hai' (Darkness is prevailing). So the need of the hour is, this message should be urgently passed,”
Mukesh then dismissed rumours that he will star as Shaktimaan and added, “Hunt is still on,” on them finding a new face for Shaktimaan.

The show ran for more than 450 episodes and has remained a nostalgic memory for millions of viewers. We are not sure whether a show or a film is being planned around Shaktimaan and if Mukesh Khanna will star in it.
