Through her music, Taylor Swift has indirectly shared a lot about her relationship and breakup with her old flame, actor Joe Alwyn. Almost a year after their split, the British actor has finally opened up about his relationship with the pop star.

Speaking about his split with Taylor, Alwyn in a rare interview with The Sunday Times Style Magazine reflected on the star's 11th studio album The Tortured Poets Department as he candidly talked about his six-year-long relationship with Swift and breakup.

The actor, who had maintained silence about his relationship with the singer all these years, was asked about Swift's new album and whether he had listened to the album.

Reacting to this, the actor went on to describe his relationship with the ''Lover'' singer, "long, loving" and "fully committed."

He told the publication, “I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathise and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years.''

''That is a hard thing to navigate. What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in,” he continued.

This is the first time when Joe has publicly commented on the breakup.

During their six years of dating, which started in 2016 and ended in April 2023, Swift and Alwyn kept their relationship out of the media glare.

In the same interview, Alwyn revealed that he and Swift "mutually" decided to "keep the more private details of our relationship private."

Talking about his breakup more, the actor said that their “very real" relationship was "suddenly thrown in the public domain.''

"What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.”

“So you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition," the actor said further. 

He continued. "And the truth is, to that last point, there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that."

Refraining from sharing his current dating status, Alwyn went on to reflect on his and Taylors' decision to keep their relationship private. 

“It was never something to commodify, and I see no reason to change that now,” Alwyn said, adding, “Look, this is also a little over a year ago now, and I feel fortunate to be in a really great place in my life — professionally and personally. I feel really good.”

"I’m sure you can appreciate, given the level of noise and scrutiny about my past relationship, why I wouldn’t want to just open the door to things like that right now," he said.

Following her breakup with Alwyn, Swift began dating Kansas City Chiefs' football tight end Travis Kelce.
