United States President Donald Trump on Sunday criticised special counsel Robert Mueller`s investigation on alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, saying that the latter is continuing his "search of a crime."
"The illegal Mueller Witch Hunt continues in search of a crime. There was never Collusion with Russia, except by the Clinton campaign, so the 17 Angry Democrats are looking at anything they can find. Very unfair and BAD for the country. ALSO, not allowed under the LAW!" Trump tweeted on Sunday.
Mueller is investigating Russia's role in the 2016 US election and whether Trump's campaign colluded with Moscow to help him win. Trump has denied colluding with the Russians.
Trump has been a vocal critic of Mueller's Russia probe and has repeatedly called it a "witch hunt" and "unnecessary."
On September 14, Trump's former campaign-chief, Paul Manafort agreed to cooperate with the ongoing Mueller`s investigation into accusations of Russian intervention in the 2016 polls.
Manafort, a longtime Republican political consultant who also worked for pro-Russian politicians in Ukraine, was convicted last month at trial in Alexandria, Virginia, on eight counts of bank and tax fraud and failing to disclose foreign bank accounts.
Earlier this year, Trump's personal lawyer called for an investigation into special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe, claiming it was tainted from the outset under former FBI director James Comey.
Trump was quoted by CNN as saying, "Fake news and the Russian witch hunt. We`ve got a whole big combination. Where is the collusion? You know they`re still looking for collusion. Where is the collusion? Find us some collusion. We want to find the collusion."
The Washington Post reported in June that Mueller is pressing to wrap up his findings by the end of summer and, in the words of former Republican leader Newt Gingrich, Trump and his allies were "prepared for war."
So far, 20 people have been indicted and at least four are cooperating with Mueller's investigators.
