Tim Walz slams JD Vance for terming Georgia school shooting ‘fact of life’

Democrat vice president candidate Tim Walz has slammed his Republican rival JD Vance for commenting that school shootings were "a fact of life". Vance made the statement in the aftermath of the devastating Georgia school shooting where four people were killed.
Addressing an LGBTQ+ advocacy group on Saturday (Sep 7), Walz went all out against Trump's VP pick, adding that such events were "not a fact of life".
“It’s a fact of life some people are gay. But you know what’s not a fact of life? That our children need to be shot dead in schools,” Walz said.
“That’s not a fact of life. Folks are banning books, but they’re okay with weapons of war being in our schools," he added.
The Minnesota governor continued attacks on Vance, stating that he wouldn't let Republicans lecture him on "family values".
“He’s got a plan on childcare costs that no one in the world understood a damn word about. We organize, we donate, we volunteer,” said Walz, referring to the Senate's vote on the Child Tax Credit that Vance missed.

Previously, Kamala Harris's campaign spokesperson had also called out Vance and Donald Trump for aligning with the interests of the gun lobby.
“Vice President Harris and Governor Walz know we can take action to keep our children safe and keep guns out of the hands of criminals,” Harris spokesperson Ammar Moussa said.
“Donald Trump and JD Vance will always choose the NRA and gun lobby over our children. That is the choice in this election," he added.

What did Vance say?
Vance condemned the Georgia shooting as an "awful tragedy" and called up for more security at schools,“so if a psycho wants to walk through the front door and kill a bunch of children, they're not able".
“We don't have to like the reality that we live in, but it is the reality we live in. We've got to deal with it,” the Ohio senator added.
As many as four people were killed while at least nine others were wounded when the shooter, identified as 14-year-old Colt Gray, opened fire atApalachee High School in Winder.
Gray's father, Colin, has beenaccused of second-degree murder for providing his son with a semiautomatic AR 15-style rifle.
Both father and son made their first court appearance on Friday and their lawyers declined to immediately seek bail.
