IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians star makes massive statement on team’s chances, says ‘we’ll play the final’

Mumbai Indians batter Naman Dhir has made a massive statement on the team’s chances ahead of his team’s Indian Premier League (IPL) contest against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday (April 7). Dhir, who is enjoying his breakthrough season with Mumbai is convinced that his side will bounce back after a torrid start to the IPL 2024 season. The Punjab-born batter predicts his side would reach the final of IPL 2024 despite losing their opening three matches.

Dhir makes massive statement

"The atmosphere is still very good in the team, the team has a good bond. It is not that we have lost all the matches in the season, there are still matches left to be played and we hope we will play the final this season," Dhir said on Saturday in a press conference.

Playing for Punjab, Dhir came into the limelight as he helped the North Indian side to their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) victory in the 2023-24 season. He was instrumental in the team’s success and also represented them in the Ranji Trophy. Questioned on his experience in the team camp, he was full of praise for senior figures like Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma.

"The atmosphere within the team is very good, I am feeling very good in it. The batting advice that I have received from Hardik (Pandya) bhai, Rohit (Sharma) bhai, they just told me to play my game and that I do not have to prove myself to anyone. They just asked me to express myself on the field without any pressure," Dhir added.

Mumbai have endured a tough time during the IPL 2024 having lost all three matches including two close matches against Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Mumbai lost to GT by six runs in their season opener while they hunted SRH down for a record chase before losing by 31 runs. In their only home game of the season so far they were beaten comprehensively by six wickets by Rajasthan Royals.
