IPL 2024: KKR’s Doeschate offers no sympathy to bowlers after PBKS thrashing
T20 cricket, or IPL to be precise, has somewhat made a mockery of bowlers, with Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate offering no sympathy to them despite his side suffering a loss against Punjab Kings at home on Friday (April 26). With over 520 runs scored and 42 sixes hit in a game labelled as one of the best in the tournament history, bowlers had nowhere to hide as PBKS chased 262 with eight wickets and over six balls remaining.
With IPL 2024 being the season where most 250-plus scoresare scoredthus far,it’slike a graveyard for the bowlers; however, Ten Doeschate feels instead of crying about this format turning into abatter’sparadise, the bowlers must up their game and be innovative and not think about things not in their hands.
Despite his team notching up 261 in the first innings, they suffered a shock defeat, withPBKS’batters going berserk during the chase. While opener Jonny Bairstow returned to form by hitting a hundred, Shashank Singh continued his impressive run, striking at over 240 while chasing.
Prabhsimran Singh was also on song, hitting a fifty, as Punjab completed the highest run chase in T20 cricket history.

"There are two ways you can look at it. You can step back andsay'Ohit'sunfair, weare bowlingmachines'or you cansay'We are going to find a way, weare going to be a point of difference compared to other teams','we are gonna try new things','we are gonna embrace the challenge'.
“Yes,it'sgoing to be tough, but you got to find innovative and new ways for the next four weeks at least, it(this season) is going to be there that long, sonopoint crying about it.
“Everything was already in thebatter'sfavour, Ifeel sorry for the bowlers asit'sgone more towards their side now. But those are the facts, the realities. My way to deal with this would be to find a way to land a punch back at the batters,”the assistant coach said.
What is a good score?
Kolkata has been on the rampage this season, with the side crossing 250 twice, once in Vizag and once against PBKS at home; even though they won the clash against DC, KKR came second against Punjab. Speaking on what should be a good score in IPL 2024, Ten Doeschate said,
“What type of score is a good score? 260has gottabe a good score. Wedidn'tstop scoring boundaries. Sunil and Salt were fantastic; it was nice to see the captain get a bit of rhythm again - probably thebiggestpositive for us tonight.
“We could play on this piece of marble here, and if you give me 260 runs, it should be enough. There is a danger of aiming too high. We need to aim for at least 240 if the wicket is as good as this,”headded.
