Rishabh Pant surpassed legendary Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist to become the third-highest six-hitter in Test cricket during India’s second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant surpassed former Australia great Adam Gilchrist to become the third-highest six-hitter in Test cricket on Monday (Aug 24). The milestone came during Pant’s 63-run knock off 89 balls in Colombo, where he struck six fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 70.79.
Pant had already become the fourth player overall and the first Indian to hit 100 sixes in Test cricket during the previous Test. He now has 102 sixes in 52 Tests, moving past Gilchrist, who hit 100 sixes in 96 matches.
Only former England captain Ben Stokes, with 138 sixes in 122 Tests and former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, with 107 sixes in 101 matches, are ahead of Pant on the list.
Pant also continued his record-breaking run by overtaking India captain Shubman Gill to become India’s highest run-scorer in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). Pant has scored 2,948 runs in 42 matches and 74 innings at an average of 42.11 and a strike rate above 74. His tally also includes six centuries, 18 fifties and a highest score of 146.
The wicketkeeper-batter also went past MS Dhoni to become the Indian wicketkeeper with most runs in away Tests. Pant now has 2,534 runs in 36 Tests and 64 innings at an average of 41.54, including six centuries and 11 fifties. Dhoni had scored 2,496 runs in 48 Tests.

In three Tests and four innings this year, Pant has scored 249 runs at an average of 62.25 and a strike rate of 73.02. He has registered three fifties, with a best score of 81.
Coming to the match, India declared their innings at 503/9, with Dhruv Jurel remaining unbeaten on 115 off 177 balls, including nine fours and two sixes.
For Sri Lanka, Asitha Fernando was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Prabath Jayasuriya and Keshara Nuwantha claimed two wickets each.
