The accused was brought to a local court and remanded for 3 days' police custody. A case was registered against him under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
In a shocking event, an autorickshaw driver allegedly thrashed a four-year-old boy, lifting him by his legs, slamming him to the ground, and then smashing his head against an iron rod after an altercation with the father of the child in the Palghar district of Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday. The incident which took place on Monday night at a housing society in Vasai was captured on CCTV. Following the complaint, the accused, identified as Sandeep Pawar, has been arrested.
Police said the assault was triggered by a minor dispute between Pawar and the child’s father, Atul Kondhare, which quickly escalated. "The brutal incident took place around 8 pm on Monday. A minor argument between the accused autorickshaw driver Sandeep Pawar and the child's father Atul Kondhare took a gruesome turn," senior police inspector Balkrishna Ghadigaonkar told news agency PTI.
The autorickshaw driver slams the child on the ground
A CCTV video also surfaced on social media showing the autorickshaw driver lifting the child by his legs, slamming him to the ground, and then smashing his head against the wheel of the autorickshaw standing in the queue of the parked vehicles. He then allegedly took the child into the building, hit his head against an iron rod, and threw him down again. The boy, identified as Vignesh, was reportedly playing inside a parked autorickshaw when Pawar approached him.
"But the brutality did not stop there. Pawar then rushed inside the building while holding the child, and smashed his head against an iron rod before throwing him to the ground again. This was done solely to avenge a fight he had earlier with the boy's father over a minor issue," Ghadigaonkar added.
Sources added that the child’s grandmother, who attempted to intervene, was also assaulted. They further stated that the accused dragged the boy to his first-floor residence. The injured child was first taken to nearby hospitals before being transferred to a hospital in Mira Road due to the seriousness of his injuries. He is currently in the intensive care unit, fighting for his life.

The accused was brought to a local court and remanded for three days of police custody. In response to his act, a case was registered against him under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. Meanwhile, further investigation is underway.
