Income-Tax officials conducted a search at Veda Nilayam, the residence of late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, at Poes Gardenlate on Friday.

As many as 15 officials led by an Additional Commissioner, swoop down on to Veda Nilayam armed with a search warrant but they were initially prevented from entering the building by police deployed on the road leading to the bungalow.

However, on information, senior police officials reached the spot and facilitated their entry.

“We searched the rooms that were used by Sasikala and Poongundram. We did not open the rooms that were occupied by the late Chief Minister when she was alive. Some devices have been seized for further investigation. The entire premises are not being searched... we went on a limited mission,” media report said quoting an official.

As the news of raid started to spread, son of J. Ilavarsiand managing director of Jaya TV Vivek Jayaraman and other AIADMK functionaries arrived at Poes Garden. Some party workers raised slogans condemning the searches.

Meanwhile, V P Kalairajan, TTV Dinakaran supporter and former MLA said ''This is just political vendetta and targeting of one family.''

Several Sasikala supporters who were protesting against the raids were detained by Police in Poes Garden.
