Former adult film star, Mia Khalifa, revealed in a recent interview that she only made a total of $12,000 (Rs 8.5 lakhs) from her time in the industry.
Khalifa had reportedly been a part of the industry for only three months, according to Vice but remains as one of the most popular names. She was in fact the most searched adult actor in the year 2018 even though it has been some time since she left the industry.
In 2014, Khalifa became a household name when terrorist organisation ISIS issued a death threat to her as she appeared in an adult film wearing hijab (the head covering that Muslims around the world wear).
In a recent interview, Khalifa told Megan Abbott that there are a lot of misconceptions of the adult film industry. She said, "A lot of things online are wrong. Most of them still claim that I do porn. I haven't done porn in five years.”
In a video she posted on Twitter, she clarifies that it wasn’t "sunshine and flowers" after she quit the industry and tried to get a job. She said, "People think I’m racking in millions from porn. Completely untrue. I made a TOTAL of around $12,000 in the industry and never saw a penny again after that. Difficulty finding a normal job after quitting porn was... scary."
Khalifa, after leaving the adult film industry went on to become a sports presenter. She was heard saying in the interview, "Everybody deserves a second chance. Everybody has a past they're not proud of.”
