Years after the popular British sitcom 'The Office' bid adieu to the world, the cult show is getting an Arabic makeover. In the latest development, BBC Studios has been said to be teaming up with Dubai based MBC Studios for its first Arabic language adaptation of the show.

The Arabic remake of the BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning comedy series is titled 'Al Maktab' and will entirely be shot in Saudi Arabia.

Italy's Alessandro Martella has been roped in as the director of photography, while Egypt's Hisham Fathi will direct the Arabic version.

BBC has licenced the series format to MBC Studios, based in Dubai.

The makers are planning for an initial 20 episode show that will go on air on MBC's linear TV channels, and later, at the end of this year, the show will stream on its Shahid VIP streaming platform.

A spokesperson for BBC Studios said that though the way of working in the office in 2022 is different, the resemblance with the familiar characters as they explore moments of trivial rivalries, friendliness, and hilarity, and a boss who at times becomes the joke, still resonates today.

He believes that the audiences in the Middle East and the Gulf will show the same kind of love for the Arabic version as the David Brent original received in the U.K.

General Manager of MBC Studios, KSA believes that the show will undoubtedly go down in history. Featuring a great cast from Saudi Arabia and other regions, Al Maktab will showcase the stories of the odd bunch of coworkers and their boss that has been recreated for the Middle East and the Gulf viewers for the first time.

The original, titled "The Office", which aired in the United Kingdom nearly 20 years ago, was written and directed by Ricky Geravis and Stephen Merchant.

Following the United States, Canada, Chile, France, India, and, most recently, Poland, MBC and the BBC Studios have reached an agreement for the twelfth international adaptation of 'The Office'format.
