President Trump had argued that the agreement was a bad deal for Americans and that he was keeping a campaign promise to put American workers first
French President Emmanuel Macron said today he hopes President Trump will change his mind on the Paris climate change agreement.
Speaking to US TV channel CBS, the French president said: "I'm sorry to say that, it doesn't fly, so, so sorry but I think it is a big responsibility in front of the history, and I'm pretty sure that my friend President Trump will change his mind in the coming months or years, I do hope."
The French president had earlier made a similar statement during the G-20 in Germany asserting that he had not given up hope to get US counterpart Donald Trump to change his mind on US withdrawl from the Paris cliamate change agreement.
"It's extremely aggressive to decide on its own just to leave, and no way to push the others to renegotiate because one decided to leave the floor," he added.
In July, President Donald Trump had announced America's withdrawal from the Paris climate deal citing "draconian financial" and "economic burdens" on the US even as the he faced international pressure from various fields not to pull out.
"I'm not ready to renegotiate but I'm ready to welcome him if he decides to come back."
