India leg-spinner Karn Sharma has announced his retirement from professional cricket and will play his final competitive match in the UP T20 League on Tuesday before turning his attention to coaching and ‘other responsibilities’ in cricket. The Railways cricketer represented India in four matches across formats, including one Test, two ODIs and one T20I, taking five wickets in total.

He made his Test debut against Australia in Adelaide during India’s 2014 tour and picked up four wickets in the match. He also played his white-ball internationals that year but could not secure a regular place in the Indian team.

Sharma, however, enjoyed a successful IPL career and played for Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He claimed 83 wickets in 90 IPL matches at an average of 26.68 and an economy rate of 8.38.
