Uttar Pradesh man bitten by snake six times in 35 days- each time on a weekend, claims man

In a strange case from Uttar Pradesh, a 24-year-old man was bitten by deadly snakes six times within one and a half months of time period. The man hailing from Soura village of Fatehpur district has been attacked multiple times by snakes in his area, and every time he was rushed to the hospital and treated.

The first incident happened on June 2 when Vikas Dubey, a village dweller was bitten after taking a nap. The snake was right behind his bed. He was rushed to a nearby clinic and got treated.

Between the first incident on June 2 and July 6, Dubey was bitten six times by snakes.

After the fourth snakebite, he was advised to leave his house and stay elsewhere, fearing of more such incidents. Dubey moved to his aunt’s house in Radhanagar, but his fate followed him there as well, and he was bitten again for the fifth time at his aunt’s house.

Dubey's parents then brought him back home. On July 6, he was attacked by a snake once more, and his condition worsened. Concerned for his health, his parents admitted him to the hospital, where he was treated and recovered.

The man noted a bizarre pattern in his previous snakebites. He observed that he was bitten by a snake each time either on a Saturday or Sunday. He also said that he had a premonition each time before being bitten.

Snakebite incidents are not rare and occur quite often. As per data from the World Health Organisation (WHO), global snakebite incidences stand at around 5.4 million, with about 1.8 to 2.7 million accounting for snake envenoming annually, resulting in approximately 8000-1,30,000 lakh deaths and triple the number of amputations and permanent disabilities.

In India, around 50,000 people are killed every year due to snakebites. Around 90 per cent of the estimated 3-4 million snakebites annually are attributed to the “big four” group of snakes - the common krait, Indian cobra, Russell’s viper and saw-scaled viper.

Last week, an incident of similar serial snakebites came to light, where a man from Bihar was bitten by a snake three times at regular intervals. In a fit of rage, the man, named Santosh Lohar, did something unbelievable- he bit the snake back! The snake was found dead but Lohar survived the incident with his unconventional response.
