West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led All India Trinamool Congress on Saturday clarified that the party has not dropped 'Congress' from its name.

The clarification came after reports suggested that the party has removed 'Congress' from its party name, logo, posters.

Several media reports suggested AITC had dropped ‘Congress’ from its logo, banners and posters, and would hereby be referred to as 'Trinamool', just weeks ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

“Name of the party, as registered with Election Commission is 'All India Trinamool Congress'. Name and symbol (flowers and grass) were approved by EC on January 1, 1998,” read a statement issued by the party.

Mamata Banerjee-led TMC officially parted ways with the Congress almost over a couple of decades ago.
