J&K: 2 Terrorists killed in ongoing encounter in Handwara

At least two terrorists were gunned in Handwara town of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday in an ongoing encounter between security officials and terrorists.

According to a report by ANI, arms and ammunition were recovered.

The area has now been cordoned off by the security officials.

Internet services are also suspended in the area.

As the operation is still underway, further details regarding the encounter are awaited.

A number of militants have been killed by security forces in recent months, including the Lashkar's Abu Dujana and the Hizbul's Sabzar Ahmed Bhat, indicating a ramping up of anti-militant activity.  

Meanwhile, Pakistan violated ceasefire in Krishna Ghati sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch on Wednesday. One soldier has been injured in the incident.

Last month, three simultaneous encounters were reported between terrorists and security personnel in several areas of Jammu and Kashmir. 

The encounters were reported from Dooru Shahabad in Anantnag district, Noorbagh in Srinagar city, and Chadoora in Budgam district.

One terrorist was killed in Dooru and two were killed in the Budgam encounter.
