Shafin Jahan is accused of being in touch with a Manseed and a P Safvan via a closed Facebook group of the Popular Front of India's political arm SDPI

The NIA (National Investigation Agency) is claiming that Hadiya'shusband Shafin Jahan was in touch with suspected Islamic State members before their marriage.

Media reports said Monday that Jahan was in touch with a Manseed and a P Safvan via a closed Facebook group of activists of the Popular Front of India (PFI)'s political arm SDPI.

The duo is accused in the ISIS Omar-al-Hindi case which the authorities claim was a conspiracy by members of an Islamic State-inspired group to target high-profile people like political leaders, high court judges, and police officers.

Manseed and P Safvan were arrested in October 2016.

The NIA believes, the media reports said, that it was Manseed and his SDPI associates who brought Hadiya and Shafin together.

Hadiya, who used to be known as Akhila Ashokan, had converted to Islam and married Shafin.

In May 2017, the Kerala High Court annulled their marriage after Hadiya's parents challenged it in court.

Later, the Supreme Court ordered the NIA to probe whether their marriage had been an example of "love jihad".

The Supreme Court recently released Hadiya from her parents' custody, which she'd been put in by the high court.
