Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday briefed the media ahead of the launch of the Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan by the Prime Minister.

Finance Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan on June 20. This scheme will help the migrant labourers, who have returned to their states, to find livelihood opportunities amid this coronavirus pandemic.

The FM said that state and central governments have worked together to identify districts which saw highest reverse migration of workers during the Covid-19 lockdown.

She said that "We have found that migrant workers returned in large numbers to 116 districts, spread over six states - Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Rajasthan".

As per the Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan, all the migrant workers who have returned to their villages will be provided a job as part of these pooled in schemes. The objective of these schemes will be achieved using the workers who are present in those districts, she said.
