National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah has voiced his concernover the “worsening situation” in Jammu and Kashmir after a Territorial Army jawan was abducted and killed by militants in Shopian district of south Kashmir.
The body of a jawan was found lying in an orchard in the Watmullah Keegam area of the district.
Farooq stressed on the need for the Centre to put pressure on Pakistan to bring peace to the region while calling the Centre's special envoy on Kashmir Dineshwar Sharma’s meeting with people of the state a “formality”.
He added that peace would be achieved only when "sincere and serious efforts" were made.
According to PTI, Farooq at a function in Kathua district said to media, “Claims of peace (in Jammu and Kashmir) are falling flat in the face of increased killings. Yet another jawan has been abducted and killed.
“All problems are originating from across the border and the life of those living along the border has become pitiable due to intermittent shelling.

Abdullah had earlier sparked a controversy with his controversial remark on “PoK belonged to Pakistan” and "this won't change" no matter how many wars India and Pakistan fight.
"Conversion of the Line of Control (LoC) into a line of peace will improve the living conditions of people on both sides and promote interaction and goodwill," Abdullah said.
He also spoke about the mental state of valley residents who now dwell in violence. He said, "The border dwellers are suffering due to fear psychosis and uncertainty."
