ASEAN Summit: Philippines shows interest in Aadhaar

The Philippines has shown interest in studying and implementing a digital identity system inspired by India’s Aadhaar and the software stack built around it.

According to sources, the leader from the Philippines have sent queries for details to know about the Aadhaar details.

The Philippines interest towards Aadhaar has come amidst the apex court in India is hearing petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Aadhaar Act as a violation of the right to privacy.

According to a recently released investigative report a major data breach relating to Aadhaar came out where details were sold out for Rs 500. 

President of Philippines Rodrigo Duterte arrived in India Wednesday for the two day ASEAN Summit to be held on 25 and 26 January. 

The summit will mark the 25 years of the Indo-ASEAN Summit.

The event will be attended by ten leaders of different South Asian countries who will also be the guest for Republic Day celebrations in Delhi.
