IPL 2024: 'For the sake of...,' tennis legend Mahesh Bhupathi asks BCCI to 'enforce sale' of RCB

India's legendary tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi has asked for sale of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The commentcomes after RCB's dismal show in the ongoing IPL season where they lost to SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 15. Notably, RCB only have one win in seven games played this season so far with their only win coming against Punjab Kings.
"For the sake of the Sport, the IPL, the fans and even the players I think BCCI needs to enforce the sale of RCB to a new owner who will care to build a sports franchise the way most of the other teams have done so," Bhupathi wrote on X after the RCB's loss against SRH.
Bengaluru bowlers had a horrible day in the field on Monday, conceding 287 runs in 20 overs - the most in an IPL innings. While chasing, they did do better as Virat Kohli and Fafdu Plessis scored 80 runs in 6.1 overs. RCB always needed something special to win the game but once Kohli departed in the seventh over, the chase derailed.

They were soon 122/5 at midway when Karthik and Mahipal Lomror took over. The duo added 59 runs in 25 balls to give RCB a sniff but the target was too much to handle. RCB, even though posted the highest total in a chase, fell short by 25 runs despite scoring 262/7.

RCB started the campaign with loss against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) but won their next game against Punjab Kings. In the next five matches, RCB have lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven wickets, to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 28 runs, to Rajasthan Royals (RR) by six wickets, and to Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets before losing to SRH on Monday.
RCB currently are at bottom of the points table with seven more league matches to go this season.
