'No third debate!': Trump refuses rematch with Kamala Harris, calls first debate 'clear victory'

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said on Thursday (September 12) that he will not participate in another debate against Vice President Kamala Harris, his Democratic opponent.

Two days after their first debate with Kamala Harris in Philadelphia, Trump said that Harris was pushing for a rematch only because he had "clearly" won. He pointed to the fact that Harris’ campaign quickly challenged him to another debate after the first one ended as evidence.

“When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, ‘I WANT A REMATCH'” Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Thursday.

He added, “Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats’ Radical Left Candidate, on Tuesday night, and she immediately called for a Second Debate.”

Although several instant polls taken after the debate indicated that Harris had performed better than Trump, the former president and his supporters criticised the host network, ABC News, and accused moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis of being politically biased.

'No third debate'

Trump suggested that Harris should concentrate on her responsibilities as vice president instead of seeking another debate. "KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!" he wrote in a post on Truth Social.

While attending a rally in Arizona on Thursday, Trump shot down the possibility of another debate during an interview with Telemundo Arizona, saying, "We just don't think it's necessary. We think we've covered everything, and I don’t believe they want it either."

Despite Trump’s refusal, Harris once again called for a second debate shortly after his post. Speaking at a campaign rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, she said, "Two nights ago, Donald Trump and I had our first debate,” she said at a campaign rally in Charlotte, North Carolina."

“And I believe we owe it to the voters to have another debate because this election and what is at stake could not be more important,” she added.

Vice Presidential debate betweenVance andWalz soon

Meanwhile, the vice presidential debate between Republican Sen. JD Vance of Ohio and Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is scheduled for October 1.

The debate on Tuesday in Philadelphia, which lasted 90 minutes and aired on ABC News, was Trump’s second presidential debate of the 2024 campaign. His first debate took place in June against President Joe Biden, who later withdrew from the race and endorsed Harris as his successor following a poor performance.
