Gmail hit by global outage, thousands unable to send emails: Reports

Gmail, the email service offered by Google, suffered a global outage on Thursday (Aug 8), according to media reports citing online issues tracker Downdetector. Thousands of users were affected by the outage.
A report by the Mirror said that thousands of users were affected by the outage. The report said that although the outage affected the sending of emails, it also causedserver connection difficulties and issues with its website.
Those trying to send messages were flagged with a banner stating- "Message could not be sent. Check your network and try again.”

A report by the New York Post said that many Gmail users took to social media, sharing screenshots of the“Oops, something went wrong” message Gmail uses whenever it stumbles across a connectivity issue.

The above reports also said that Google had yet to comment on the problem. This outage comes after tens of thousands of users were unable to use Google services in August 2022 when a software update caused a mass outage.
In August 2020,Google services, including Gmail, were hit by serious disruption. Drive and Docs were also disrupted for almost six hours.
