
Mere hoursafter the Sri Lankan men's cricket team ended its unsuccessful campaign at the T20 World Cup in Australia, a member of the team, Danushka Gunathilaka has been arrested by the Sydney city police.
Reportedly,Gunathilaka has been arrested and charged over the alleged sexual assault of a woman in the city. The Sri Lankan top-order batter was escorted out of the team hotel on Sussex Street and sent to police custody.
According to local media reports,Gunathilaka has been charged with four counts of rape. He allegedly sexually assaulted a 29-year-old woman last week at a Rose Bay home after meeting on a dating app.
"The woman met with the man after communicating with him for a number of days via an online dating application; it's alleged he then sexually assaulted her on the evening of November 2," said the police.

"Following further inquiries, a 31-year-old man was arrested at a hotel on Sussex Street, Sydney, shortly before 1am today. He was taken to Sydney City Police Station and charged with four counts of sexual intercourse without consent."
The cricketer has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear at a local court where it will be decided if he gets bail or a police remand.
The Sri Lankan team has also left the Australian shores withoutGunathilaka. Notably, Gunathilaka had sustaineda left hamstring tear during the early stages of the tournament which left him out of the squad. However, he travelled with the team.
The Sri Lankan cricket board is yet to release a statement regarding Gunathilaka's arrest.
