While top names like Yuvraj Singh, Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill found no takers in the first round of the 2019 IPL auction, Varun Chakravarthy, a mystery spinner from Tamil Nadu grabbed a deal of Rs 8.4 crore with Preity Zinta co-owned Punjab.

Started playing cricket as a wicketkeeper-batsman at the age of 13, Varun proved his calibre after he got opportunities to bowl in the Chennai nets and even to SRK co-owned Kolkata players.
