Six students killed, 20 injured after school bus overturns in India's Haryana

Six school students were killed and 20 others were injured after a bus carrying them met with an accident in Haryana's Mahendragarh district on Thursday (Apr 11), the news agency PTI reported citing the police. According to preliminary reports, the bus overturned while overtaking a vehicle in Mahendragarh's Kanina town. The injured students were rushed to a hospital.
Speaking to PTI, Mahendragarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Arsh Verma said that the driver of the bus was arrested. An injured student told the police that the driver was drunk, and the bus was overspeeding.
According to District Collector Monika Gupta, the school where the students studied was a private school that was working even on a holiday. Gupta said that action would be taken.
She said there was a lack of documents related to the vehicle, so an FIR was being lodged against the school administration as well.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the families of the victims. "Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured children. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in providing all possible help to the victims and their families," Modi added.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "The accident of a school bus in Mahendragarh, Haryana is very sad. My condolences are with the bereaved families of the deceased children. May God give them the strength to bear this loss. The local administration is providing help to the injured children. I wish them a speedy recovery."
