New Delhi, India
Tihar Jail officials have submitted a report to Lt Governor VK Saxena stating that jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ceased insulin intake months before his arrest.
"At the time of arrest, he was just taking a basic anti-diabetes oral medicine tablet Metformin... During his medical check-ups in Tihar Jail, CM Kejriwal told doctors that he was taking insulin till last few years and stopped taking insulin a few months back on the advice of a Telangana doctor… Also, as per the MLC report available from RML Hospital, Kejriwal was neither advised any insulin nor any requirement of any insulin was indicated," the report read.
"On 10.04.2024 and 15.04.2024, Kejriwal was reviewed by a Medicine Specialist and advised oral anti-diabetic drugs / medicines... it is incorrect to state that Kejriwal was denied insulin at any point of time during his treatment," the report added.
AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said that a conspiracy is being hatched for the 'slow death' of Kejriwal.
While addressing a press conference, Delhi cabinet minister Bhardwaj said, "I want to say with full responsibility that a conspiracy is underway for the slow death of Kejriwal."
The claim was made after a similar comment by AAP leader Atishi, who said that the ruling BJP is conspiring to kill Kejriwal. "For the past several days, his blood sugar level has been consistently above 300 mg/dL. Despite Kejriwal's repeated requests, he is not being given insulin, and his sugar level is increasing. He is not being given medication because there is a plot to kill him," she alleged.

Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Friday (Apr 19) reserved the ruling on a petition filed by Kejriwal requesting the Tihar jail authorities to provide him insulin. In connection to his diabetes, Kejriwal is also seeking authorisation for a daily 15-minute video conference consultation with a doctor.

“If a patient with high sugar does not take medicine, his body parts can get damaged. This can happen to Arvind Kejriwal ji as well. If this happens, no L-G will be able to provide him with a kidney or liver," Bhardwaj said.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja on April 19 said that the order will be issued on April 22. Notably, Kejriwal's judicial custody is until April 23.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) had alleged that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was intentionally consuming mangoes, sweets, and other high-carb foods to elevate his blood sugar levels in an effort to strengthen his case for bail.
In hard-hitting arguments, Kejriwal's lawyer Singhvi said, “Is he a gangster? Is he a hardcore criminal? That he cannot get 15 minutes VC daily (with his doctor)." "We have had democracy for 75 years... but I have never heard, much less seen, such kind of pettiness," Shighvi added.
