India batting coach Vikram Rathour has said he's not happy with ace batter Virat Kohli not scoring runs in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. India, nonetheless, managed to advance from group stage with three wins in four games and won their first Super 8 game as well.
“I'm not happy. I would love it if he gets going and scores more runs,” Rathour told news agency PTI on India's unbeaten run in the tournament without Kohli's contribution.
“But yeah, it is good when you are challenged at times. You know, the guys who are not getting too much of batting in India sometimes, they are the ones who put up scores today and our middle-order came to play. So, it was good to see,” he added.
Kohli scored four, one and zero in three group stage games before scoring run-a-ball 24 in the Super 8 fixture against Afghanistan. Other batters namely Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant, however, have been in great form and have taken India through.
Rathour also spoke about depth in the team and said: “We've always had depth as a team, I believe. But yeah, these conditions maybe suit us more because we can afford to play two or three spinners at times. So that I believe can be our best team. That is our strength."

India are in Group 1 of Super 8 with Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia. After registering a convincing win against Afghanistan in first fixture of the knockout stage, they take on Bangladesh on Saturday (June 22). A win would mean India all but through semis of the tournament.
