An investigating team is probing the death of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, an Apollo doctor stated.

A doctor from the Apollo hospital has said that Jayalalitha was brought to the hospital in a critical condition.

He said that the late chief minister had shown significant progress during her treatment but that she later succumbed to her "disease pattern".

"Her disease pattern was such and due to acute respiratory distress syndrome she passed away.He said that his team of doctors did best that they could," said the founder of Apollo Hospital.

Jayalalithaa was brought to Apollo Hospital on September 22, 2016, where she spent 75 days.

The AIADMK chief died in hospital on December 5, 2016.

The Apollo hospital staff have been claiming that she was brought to the hospital in a severe state and was given adequate treatment in the hospital.

However, controversies over her death erupted after leaders from her party pointed fingers at VK Sasikala, her close aide.

An investigation had already been initiated by chief ministerEdappadi Palaniswami on the demands ofPanneerselvam.
