She only wanted Amma’s children to be together, I tried to convince her for 30 mins… but she didn't agree” he told media. Adding that, the AMMK had received over 1300 nominations from prospective candidates and that the candidates list would be announced on March 10th, followed by the alliance announcement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Murthy stated that five rooms in the prison were allotted to her when she was entitled to only one.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"There were allegations against jail authority that they allotted 5 rooms to Sasikala. She was entitled to 1 room but was given 4. In other 4 rooms, female convicts were staying up to 14 February 2017. Once Sasikala reached, they were sent out, all 5 were given to her," Murthy stated.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy chief minister MG Parameshwara reacted to the reports saying that he can't answer for the Home Minister. He was asked to react to the reports as he was the Home Minister (state) for Karnataka at the time Sasikala was jailed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"You should ask the Home Minister. I can't answer for him. I don't think so," he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sasikala is lodged in Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She was convicted by the Supreme Court in February 2017, in a disproportionate assets case and is serving a four-year sentence.</p>

<p>Sasikala was earlier granted five days of parole to visit her ailing husband who was discharged from hospital in November 2017. She was granted 15-day parole to attend the final rites of her husband Natarajan Maruthappa in March 2018.</p>

<p>In the 55-page, 99-paragraph affidavit filed on March 12, Sasikala says Jayalalithaa sought help just after brushing her teeth in the bathroom located on the first floor of her Poes Garden residence, a report said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sasikala&rsquo;s relative KS Sivakumar, a doctor, two personal security officers and a driver immediately reached the first floor after being called out for help.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Soon, a call was made to Vijay Kumar Reddy, husband of Apollo Hospitals&rsquo; vice-chairperson Preetha Reddy, after which two ambulances were sent to Poes Garden from Apollo&rsquo;s Greames Road and Teynampet hospitals.</p>

<p>Sasikala said she has made videos of Jayalalithaa with her permission, of which four have been submitted to the Commission.</p>

<p>Sasikala also said senior AIADMK leaders including O Panneerselvam and M Thambidurai met her.</p>

<p>Earlier, both leaders have said they were denied access to Jayalalithaa in her three months in the hospital.</p>

<p>Sasikala, who is serving a four-year jail term for corruption, has also declared that Jayalalithaa regained consciousness in the ambulance en route to the hospital and asked where she was being taken.</p>

<p>Jayalalithaa was unwell on September 22, the day she was hospitalised.</p>

<p>Earlier in the day, Sasikala has said she suggested a visit to the hospital on that very day, but Jayalalithaa had refused to go.</p>

<p>&quot;She is on a mauna viratham (vow of silence) since Amma&#39;s (Jayalalithaa) death anniversary (on December 5),&quot; Dhinakaran told reporters after meeting his aunt in the Parappana Agrahara Prison here.<br />
Sasikala, a close confidante of Jayalalithaa, was expected to continue her silent vow till January end, Dhinakaran said without elaborating.</p>

<p>Sasikala&#39;s appointment as interim general secretary following Jayalalithaa&#39;s death has been annulled by the AIADMK general council in September last after the merger of factions led by Chief Minister K Palaniswami and his now deputy O Panneerselvam.</p>

<p>The meet also held as invalid all her decisions, including the appointment of Dhinakaran as the deputy general secretary.</p>

<p>Dhinakaran said Sasikala listened to what he told her about the future course of action on party matters.</p>

<p>This was his first visit to the prison to meet Sasikala after winning the December 21 RK Nagar bypoll, held to fill the vacancy caused by the death of sitting MLA Jayalalithaa, who passed away on December 5, 2016.</p>

<p>On the one-man inquiry commission probing the death of Jayalalithaa summoning Sasikala, he said his aunt had been asked to submit whatever evidence she had in this connection within 15 days and she had not been asked to appear in person.</p>

<p>&quot;It (evidence) can be given through lawyer also,&quot; he added.</p>

<p>On December 22, Justice A Arumughaswamy, who heads the commission, had directed Sasikala to submit her response within 15 days.</p>

<p>The commission is probing the circumstances leading to the hospitalisation of Jayalalithaa on September 22 last year and the medical treatment provided to her till her death.</p>

<p>Several persons, including IAS officials, doctors, Jayalalithaa&#39;s niece J Deepa and nephew J Deepak and Madurai- based DMK functionary P Saravanan have deposed before it so far.</p>

<p>Dhinakaran noted that he had also been issued summons by the commission and he would appear before it if required.</p>

<p>On a woman from this city claiming to be Jayalalithaa&#39;s daughter, Dhinakaran said similar issues cropped up when the late leader headed a faction of the AIADMK following the death of its founder late Chief Minister MG Ramachandran in 1987.</p>

<p>However, Jayalalithaa used to say that &quot;we should not respond&quot; to such things, Dhinakaran claimed.</p>

<p>On the video released by his aide P Vetrivel, purportedly showing Jayalalithaa in a hospital bed, Dhinakaran reiterated that the former had done so without his knowledge.</p>

<p>The video was released a day ahead of the RK Nagar byelection and was treated as a violation of the election code of conduct by the Election Commission.</p>

<p>Documents relating to the import of fleet of foreign cars were seized from the Chennai house of Sasikala&#39;s niece.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Also, cash amounting to Rs 55 lakh was seized from a Women&#39;s College owned by Sasikala&#39;s brother V Dhivaharan.</p>

<p>Search operations&nbsp;were conducted on over 187 premises owned by VK Sasikala and her family members.</p>

<p>Deposed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala today (October 12) left for Bengaluru by road to report at the Parappana Agrahara Prison in Bengaluru as her parole for visiting her husband in a hospital here ended yesterday.<br />

<p>She had visited her husband M Natarajan, who underwent liver and kidney transplantation at the hospital, on all five days of her parole period.</p>

<p>According to Gleneagles Global Health City, where Natarajan (74) underwent organ transplantations on October 4 and a tracheostomy two days later, he is recovering well.</p>

<p>The AIADMK leader, who was removed from the party last month by Chief Minister K Palaniswami-led camp, is travelling in a car, which had to halt at several locations here like the Trade Centre point as the area was teeming with party cadres to greet and wish her well.</p>

<p>Also, as was witnessed in the past five days, several women cadres carried their newborns in their arms and requested Sasikala to name them.</p>

<p>After halting at several locations, her convoy took the Bengaluru highway.</p>

<p>The 60-year-old leader is expected to reach Bengaluru on time to report at the prison complex by six pm in keeping with the parole condition.</p>

<p>Sasikala has been lodged in the Parapana Agrahara central jail since February this year after the Supreme Court upheld her conviction by a special court in a disproportionate assets case.</p>

<p>Her relatives Ilavarasi and V N Sudhakaran are also serving four-year jail terms in the case.</p>

<p>Granted emergency parole from October 7 to 11, she was asked to adhere to several conditions, including a gag order on interacting with the media.</p>

<p>Sasikala&#39;s visit came at a time when her nephew and sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran and the ruling camp led by Palaniswami and deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam are fighting it out to get the two leaves symbol, which was frozen by the Election Commission.</p>

<p>Sasikala, who once dominated Tamil Nadu politics as a close aide of Jayalalithaa, has been relegated to the margins within the AIADMK after the two rival factions led by current Tamil Nadu chief minister E Palaniswami and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam merged in September.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While in jail, the former AIADMK leader courted controversy after senior prison officers said she received special privileges in jail.</p>

<p>The Tamil Nadu government had ordered an enquiry after the accusations surfaced.</p>

<p>The ouster of&nbsp; V.K.Sasikala, a close associate of the late Chief Minister Jayalalitha, has come as no surprise. One of the conditions put forth by the leader of one of the two factions, Mr.O.Panneerselvam for the merger with the other faction was that Sasikala should be removed from the post of the general secretary for which she was hurriedly elected soon after the death of Jayalalitha. All went well until she decided to become the chief minister, replacing Mr.O.Panneerselvam who rebelled. She would have been the chief minister if the state governor,&nbsp;Mr Vidyasagar Rao had not delayed inviting to form the government.</p>

<p>Moreover, her chief ministerial ambition was rudely aborted when the Supreme Court delivered its verdict, upholding the trial court&rsquo;s decision awarding her a sentence of four years. She cannot contest an election for the next ten years and that means her political future is doomed. However, before she moved to Bangalore jail, she hurriedly got her trusted party man E.Palanisamy elected as the chief minister and appointed her nephew T.T.V Dinakaran as the deputy secretary of the party which, incidentally, is a newly created post. This, she did to keep the reins of the party within her family, which is known as the Mannargudi clan, named after the place she hails from. Many even call them the Mannargudu Mafia.</p>

<p>In the confidence motion that followed, in February, Palanisamy won as he had the support of 122 MLAs. But soon&nbsp;Dinakaran threw his hat into the ring and offered himself to contest in the by election caused by the death of Jayalalitha in the R.K Nagar constituency. The chief minister did not expect this.He knew that if Dinakaran won, he would replace him as the chief minister.</p>

<p>Dinakaran himself during his campaign never even mentioned the name of Sasikala as he knew she had become a liability. Rightly or wrongly there was a perception among the cadres of the party and the public in general that Sasikala was responsible for the death of Jayalalitha. During the 75 days&nbsp;Jayalalitha was in the hospital, Sasikal ensured utmost secrecy about her health and allowed none, including the state governor to visit and see her. This gave rise to suspicions about her health and Sasikala&#39;s role in it. People were lamenting that it was Sasikala who would not let them have even a glimpse of their beloved leader till she died.</p>

<p>When Sasikala was made the general secretary of the party before she went to jail, there were objections from some of the party members that such a move was against the constitution of the party which stipulated that one should have been a member of the party&nbsp;continuously for five years. In 2011, Jayalalitha expelled Sashikala from the party and readmitted her later after she apologised.This resulted in a break in qualifying party membership.</p>

There is nothing new in this arrangement. When the Dravida Munnetra Kazhakam split from Periyar&rsquo;s&nbsp;Dravidar Kazhakam, the founder of the DMK, Annadurai&nbsp;kept the post of the president of the party vacant saying that Periyar was still their leader. Later, Karunanidhi changed it and became the president of the DMK. After M.G.Ramachandran&rsquo;s death, Jayalalitha called herself the general secretary and not the president of the party. Now she continues&nbsp;even after her death and no body will dare to question it.</p>

<p>When Jayalalitha was alive, Sasikala was&nbsp; operating as an extra constitutional authority and was more feared than the chief minister herself. Officials took orders from her. She was allegedly involved in land grabs, corruption and amasssing of wealth. She wa a partner in many business ventures in which Jayalalitha was also involved and every one knew that her association with Jayalalitha started as a video grapher and video supplier. Partymen and cadres&nbsp;could not openly express their dislike as long as Jayalalitha was alive. Such was the hold Sasikala and her family had on Jayalalitha, that on the day of her funeral all the family members who were expelled from the party&nbsp; were seen around the body&nbsp;of the late chief minister, indicating the family was back to grab power.</p>

<p>Dhinakaran and his followers have dismissed Palaniswami&#39;s meeting and the resolution passed at the AIADMK headquarters, claiming that only the party&#39;s general secretary has the authority to hold a meeting and they were not invited to the party meeting.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dhinakaran, nephew of Sasikala, along with the support of 21 MLAs is demanding the removal of Palaniswami as CM. Since the merger, he has also been trying to prove his authority over the party by bringing in his supporters and removing the already existing ones.&nbsp;<br />

Questioning the legality of the appointments made by Sasikala before going to jail the meeting has also adopted a resolution to call a general council meeting for the expulsion of jailed party chief.</p>

<p>Sasikala&#39;s appointed as the interim general secretary of the party on 29 December after the demise of former chief minister and party supremo J Jayalalithaa, was already approaching an end since the merger of the two factions.<br />
