Actor turned politician Vijay has been facing a huge backlash following a deadly Karur stampede, which left 41 dead and several injured.
Following a deadly stampede in Karur, Tamil Nadu, a bomb threat was reported at the Chennai residence of actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay. However, it turned out to be a hoax.
On Thursday, Oct 9, Tamil Nadu authorities confirmed that the bomb threat directed at actor Vijay's home was a hoax. This alarming news comes just days after a tragic stampede that occurred during a rally organised by the TVK, which resulted in the deaths of at least 40 people, including children and women.
The bomb threat caused a brief panic, prompting police and bomb disposal units to rush to Vijay's residence. However, upon investigation, authorities found no explosives at the location. Following the hoax threat, an investigation is currently underway to identify the individual responsible for spreading this false information.
The security around Vijay's residence has been increased with equal measure. The bomb threat is another concern that the party and the actor have been getting since the stampede.
No official statement has been released by Vijay or his political party yet.
On Oct 3, the Madras High Court blasted over the actor Vijay and on Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leaders for fleeing the site of the Karur stampede, saying that they abandoned their own cadres, followers, and fans. Unsatisfied with the Stage's investigation, the Court also ordered a probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the stampede.
Justice N Senthilkumar said,''...it is really sad that Mr.Vijay, the leader and the members of his political party which organised the meeting fled the scene of occurrence...This Court strongly condemns the conduct of Mr.Vijay, the organisers of the event and the members of the political party for fleeing from the scene of occurrence immediately after mishaps."
