Tamil Nadu is embroiled in a political storm over CM C Joseph Vijay's plan to build a new Rs 1,200-crore Secretariat-Assembly complex at Pattinapakkam, near Marina Beach. Former CM and DMK president MK Stalin strongly opposed the move, warning it would devastate fishing communities' homes and livelihoods, sarcastically saying "the Secretariat is not for the CM to gaze at the sea." With AIADMK and even coalition partner CPI-M also opposing, Vijay may be forced into a U-turn and look for an alternative coastal site.

CM Vijay delivered a fiery 40-minute speech, growing visibly agitated as he condemned what he called a "river of abuse" against women — an indirect but pointed rebuke aimed at DMK's Udhayanidhi Stalin over his remarks targeting actor Trisha Krishnan. Invoking the 1989 assault on former CM Jayalalithaa inside the same Assembly, Vijay said harsh political criticism is welcome, but personal attacks on women never will be. He also hit DMK on corruption, the TASMAC scam, and law and order.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will officially open the sluice gates of the Mettur Dam today, September 1, initiating a 45-day water release for the Cauvery delta districts. The decision brings major relief to local farmers after low storage levels and insufficient monsoon rainfall delayed the customary June 12 opening. Following continuous legal efforts before the Cauvery Water Management Authority and Supreme Court to secure the state's share of water, rising inflows have now enabled the release to support land preparation and agricultural needs across delta regions.

The Tamil Nadu government has ordered comprehensive quality and alcohol-content testing across all state distilleries following public concern and a political controversy surrounding the swift clearance of liquor variants produced by Enrica Enterprises. Tamil Nadu's Principal opposition party DMK has questioned Chief Minister Vijay's alleged change in stance on the crucial political and constitutional issue of Delimitation. Karnataka forest firing: Vijay demands high-level investigation

Tensions have flared between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka after three Tamil men were shot dead by Karnataka Forest Department officials in the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary on August 15. The department claims it was an anti-poaching operation where the men opened fire first, but locals dispute this, alleging the men were shot in the neck rather than restrained. TN CM Vijay called the incident a "massacre," demanding a high-level probe, while Karnataka CM Shivakumar has ordered a magisterial inquiry and announced compensation.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay is stepping up his opposition to the Centre over the proposed FCRA amendment legislation. His party TVK has urged the government to withdraw the bill, raising concerns over changes to rules governing foreign contributions. The move marks a sharper political challenge to the BJP and could add another layer to Tamil Nadu’s increasingly competitive political landscape.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly has passed a resolution opposing delimitation, urging the Union government to permanently retain the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats based on the population figures of the 1971 Census.

The resolution, moved by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, received support from the DMK, despite the party previously skipping Vijay’s all-party meeting on delimitation.

Vijay also called for the immediate implementation of 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies, arguing that the quota should be calculated on the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats.

The Tamil Nadu government has also taken strong positions on several other issues, including NEET, the proposed FCRA amendments, and the state’s anti-drug campaign.
