Some films do more than entertain; they stay with us long after the credits roll. Whether it is the emotional depth, memorable performances, or powerful storytelling, certain films leave a lasting impression. Theri is one such film for me. Released in 2016, the Atlee directorial stars Vijay in what I consider one of the finest performances of his career. Years later, whenever Joseph Kuruvilla appears on screen and G.V. Prakash Kumar's background score kicks in, it still gives me goosebumps. While Vijay has delivered several iconic performances over the years, there is something about Theri that continues to resonate with me every time I revisit it.

Unforgettable moments and dialogues of Theri

What makes Theri memorable is its ability to balance action with emotion. The film is filled with moments that continue to resonate years after its release, thanks to its memorable characters and heartfelt storytelling.

One of the film's greatest strengths is the bond between Joseph Kuruvilla and his daughter, Nivi. From Joseph affectionately calling her ‘Baby’ to the playful yet meaningful conversations they share, their relationship forms the emotional heart of the story. Their chemistry feels genuine, making audiences emotionally invested in their journey.

Also Read: CM Vijay's birthday special: 5 blockbusters every fan must rewatch

Among the most powerful moments is when Nivi's life is threatened. In an instant, the soft-spoken bakery owner transforms back into the fearless DCP Vijay Kumar. The scene perfectly captures the lengths a father will go to protect his child and serves as a reminder that beneath Joseph's calm exterior lies a man carrying immense grief and responsibility.

The film is also packed with memorable dialogues. One standout moment comes when Joseph's mother jokingly asks him for a lift. His response reflects his unwavering sense of duty: "I'm a DCP, not an Uber-Ola driver. Another emotionally charged scene arrives when Joseph reflects on his daughter choosing compassion despite learning painful truths about her family's past. He argues that society's failure to raise boys with respect and responsibility contributes to crimes against women. Even years later, the dialogue remains relevant and thought-provoking.

Vijay's performance in Theri

What makes Theri special is Vijay's ability to portray two vastly different sides of the same character with remarkable ease. As Joseph Kuruvilla, he is warm, gentle, and deeply devoted to his daughter. He runs a bakery, lives a simple life, and finds happiness in the smallest moments with Nivi. Despite experiencing unimaginable loss, Joseph's warmth never fades whenever he is around his daughter. It is this vulnerability that makes the character feel so human.

As DCP Vijay Kumar, however, the transformation is electrifying. CM Vijay's birthday special: 5 blockbusters every fan must rewatch

Samantha Ruth Prabhu is busy promoting her upcoming Telugu film Maa Inti Bangaram. The actress was in Chennai to promote her film when she made a pit stop to meet Tamil Nadu’s new Chief Minister Vijay. Taking to her Instagram account on Wednesday, Samantha posted a long note praising her former co-star and now CM of Tamil Nadu, Vijay.

Samantha meets Vijay

Samantha posted two photos with Vijay. In the first one, she was seen posing beside him as the two smiled for the camera. In another photograph, the two were seen chatting

Samantha shared a long note along with the photos and said, “When I landed in Chennai today, I felt this immense sense of happiness. I was going to meet our CM. I’ve always felt that Vijay sir was never meant to be just a hero on screen. His energy, his presence, and the way people respond to him always felt like he was meant for something bigger."

She added, “What inspires me most is the courage it takes to step into a completely new arena. To leave behind what you have already mastered and take on a challenge where the stakes are so much higher. Not because it is easy, but because you believe you can make a difference.”

Samantha also predicted that Vijay will continue to surprise people even now, and said, “I think all of us, at some point in our lives, are called to do more. To look beyond ourselves and ask how we can contribute. Very few people actually answer that call. I have a feeling Vijay sir will surprise even the people who already believe in him. Not because of the position he holds, but because of the intent with which he approaches it. Wishing him strength, wisdom and the courage to stay the course. And for every young person watching, may this be a reminder that life can be so much bigger than the dream you started with.”

Ahead of her film Maa Inti Bangaram's theatrical release, actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu met up with her former co-star and Tamil Nadu CM Vijay in Chennai. Samantha shared photos of their meet up and penned a warm note for the CM.

Samantha meets Vijay Samantha posted two photos with Vijay. In the first one, she was seen posing beside him as the two smiled for the camera. In another photograph, the two were seen chatting Samantha shared a long note along with the photos and said, “When I landed in Chennai today, I felt this immense sense of happiness. I was going to meet our CM. I’ve always felt that Vijay sir was never meant to be just a hero on screen. His energy, his presence, and the way people respond to him always felt like he was meant for something bigger." She added, “What inspires me most is the courage it takes to step into a completely new arena. To leave behind what you have already mastered and take on a challenge where the stakes are so much higher. Not because it is easy, but because you believe you can make a difference.” Samantha also predicted that Vijay will continue to surprise people even now, and said, “I think all of us, at some point in our lives, are called to do more.

Tamil Nadu actor, film producer and director Vishal predominantly works in Tamil cinema. He is best known for starring in high-octane action films, including Sandakozhi, Thimiru and Mark Antony, and has publicly called out Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay for allocating the Film Technology and Cinematograph portfolio to Minister Rajmohan.

Why is Vishal against the decision of Vijay allocating Film Technology and cinematograph portfolio to Minister Rajmohan. ?

Vishal publicly criticised CM Vijay for appointing Rajmohan as the minister of Film Technology and Cinematograph. Citing the minister's alleged inexperience, Vishal urged Vijay to directly step in and address long-standing film industry demands: implementing a government ticketing window, abolishing the local body tax, and increasing subsidies for small films.

Also Read: Vijay brings back MGR magic in Tamil Nadu politics: Which 'jackal' will Thalapathy 'the lion' choose?

Taking to his X profile, Vijay shared his opinion and wrote a long note, citing some requirements. How would I or we as a body or as an association render our requests or grievances of our film industry which is actually bleeding and has so many reforms to be made, and give a ray of hope for the fraternity, especially producers/production houses, to someone who has less or no experience of wat is happening in our industry more than our CM who was and is part of the industry from the grassroots level and has been part of the fraternity for the last 30 years?

Tamil Nadu actor, film producer and director Vishal predominantly works in Tamil cinema. He is best known for starring in high-octane action films, including Sandakozhi, Thimiru and Mark Antony, and has publicly called out Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay for allocating the Film Technology and Cinematograph portfolio to Minister Rajmohan. Citing the minister's alleged inexperience, Vishal urged Vijay to directly step in and address long-standing film industry demands: implementing a government ticketing window, abolishing the local body tax, and increasing subsidies for small films.
