On Thursday (March 19), it was learned that the movie has been referred by the CBFC to the Election Commission for approval. Following reports of the movie being sent to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik addressed the media to clarify the reports. Responding to queries about Vijay's connection with politics and whether a film featuring a political party leader requires approval during when the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced in the state, Patnaik said the Commission would examine the matter and take an appropriate decision, as reported by Indian Express. For the unversed, Vijay will contest in the elections in April in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party. The MCC came into effect across the state on March 15 and will remain in force until the completion of counting on May 4. The revising committee of the censor board has once again reviewed the movie, with a team that watched it again in Mumbai on Tuesday. The movie was sent for re-examination by officials over its content. Now, due to political references in the movie, they have recommended it to the Election Commission. As a result, the decision on the movie's release now rests with the Election Commission. So we say that Jana Nayagan has cleared one stage of approval but is now stuck at another. The movie that was set to release on Jan 9. But after it failed to get the clearification from CBFC, the movie was not released. Following the delay in the certification, the makers filed a case against CBFC. Earlier it was reported that movie would be released in February, but the movie was delayed again. Amid all, York Cinemas, the Canadian distributor of Jana Nayagan, shared an official post in February informing fans that the movie would not be released before April 30.

<p>Fans of Tamil actor Vijay may have to wait longer to watch the actor turned politician’s last film, <i>Jana Nayagan</i>. The film’s review screening by the Central Board of Film Certification was scheduled to take place on Monday; however, it has now been postponed.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The film has been facing multiple hurdles before its theatrical delay and a certification by the CBFC has been denied. A revising committee was set up by CBFC, which will now watch the film afresh before taking a final call on its certification. Makers were hopeful that the revising committee would watch the film on Monday, but that’s now been pushed, a report on NDTV stated.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>A CBFC board member will preside over the examination, while a different set of advisory panel members will join the committee for the screening. The delay reportedly occurred after a member of the committee fell ill and thus the committee had to cancel the screening. The producers claim that the film was viewed by the examining committee on December 19, and with some cuts, they recommended a U/A 16+ certificate. Then on January 5, 2026, the film was referred to a nine-member revising committee, leading the makers to move to court. On January 9, the Madras High Court quashed the CBFC chairman’s decision to refer the film to a revising committee and directed the board to grant a U/A 16+ certificate. Soon after, CBFC challenged this order before the Division Bench, which stayed the single judge’s ruling the same day. However, on January 15, it declined to interfere with the interim stay but directed the Madras HC to hear the appeal expeditiously. Acting on this, the High Court resumed and completed the hearing on January 20. Apart from Vijay, Jana Nayagan features an ensemble cast including Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde and Narain.
