A shooting incident at a bustling shopping mall in Florida has resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to seven others.

According to Miami-Dade police, a confrontation erupted at the Martini Bar within the CityPlace Doral premises early Saturday morning (April 6). The altercation led to the fatal shooting of a security guard, who intervened in the altercation, by the gunman. Subsequently, the assailant was also killed in an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement, as reported by Alvaro Zabaleta, a Miami-Dade detective, cited by the Guardian.

Six bystanders, comprising five men and one woman, sustained injuries during the shootout, along with a police officer who was shot in the leg, as stated by Zabaleta.

“Officers that were working at the commercial establishment at the time immediately responded, and there was an exchange of gunfire,” Zabaleta said during a news conference.

“Unfortunately, the security guard lost his life while he was performing his duties, and of course, our heart goes out to that family,” he added.

The wounded police officer, who applied his own tourniquet according to CBS News, has been discharged from the hospital. Local residents expressed shock at the violent incident.

The identity of the shooter is being investigated by authorities.

Police say not looking for any suspects

Police stated they are not searching for any suspects. Chief of Police Edwin Lopez, during a press briefing, commended the prompt response and "heroic deeds" of the City of Doral police officers on the scene, which prevented the situation from worsening.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting involving officers, while Miami-Dade police are examining the homicide aspect.

Authorities mentioned they aren't seeking any suspects but have detained several witnesses for questioning.
