The shortest flight is operated by Loganair and flies between the Orkney islands of Westray and Papa Westray in Scotland.

At times, the flying duration between Westray and Papa Westray is less than a minute which makes it the shortest flight. On this route, the fastest recorded flight was around 53 seconds and this was achieved by pilot Stuart Linklater.

Originally, flights on the route started in 1967 and quickly broke the record of the shortest scheduled flights in the world. The journey of the flight takes place on an everyday basis in both directions and the only day the flights do not fly is on Saturdays.

In this journey, the flight covers a distance of 2.7 kilometres approximately and the length of the flight is almost the same as the runway at Edinburgh Airport.

A flight with a capacity of only 10 passengers

The airline uses Britten-Norman BN2B-26 Islander aircraft which has the capacity of up to 10 passengers for the flight.

Because the plane is small in size, those people who are seated in the front row are able to watch the pilot fly the plane.
