
A dance performance at the recent annual conference of the Association of Colon and Rectal Surgeons of India in the city of Chennai has ignited a heated debate online. The 58-second video, which has gone viral on social media, features a female dancer entertaining an audience of male attendees. The footage captures some men joining the dancer, drinks in hand, which raisedeyebrows and prompted a flurry of reactions from netizens.
The video was posted by an X user who questioned the appropriateness of the event.“This annual conference of the Association of Colon and Rectal Surgeons of India, held in Chennai on 19th to 21st Sep. What I want to know from @IMAIndiaOrg is this some kind of training in human anatomy? Old doctors grabbing women in public is what part of medicine practice?,” the user who posted the video questioned.

The reactions to the performance have been mixed. While many viewers have expressed strong disapproval, labelling the display as vulgar and disrespectful to the medical profession, others have come to the dancer's defence, arguing that there was no inappropriate behaviour.
One commenter expressed concern, stating, “It’s troubling to associate such behaviour with a professional medical conference. This kind of conduct undermines the integrity of the medical field and basic human decency. There must be accountability, and organisations should take immediate action against such misconduct.”

On the other hand, some users defended the performance. One user wrote,"Has the lady complained of any sexual harassment? If yes, take legal action. If no, stop moral policing." Another commented, "Nobody misbehaved with the dancer. She pulled one of the audience to dance. Not sure what is the issue. Cabaret is a form of entertainment."
