A woman in the Indian state of Karnataka tragically passed away after donating a portion of her liver to a relative. Archana Kamath underwent a liver transplantation procedure as a donor and gave 60% of her liver to her mother-in-law's sister. But after the surgery, she started facing health complications and passed away.
Netizens expressed deep shock at the news and were sad to learn of the 33-year-old's death in an attempt to save someone else's life.
The woman had donated a part of her liver to her husband's aunt who she reportedly considered extremely dear. The operation took place at a hospital in Bengaluru. Three days later, her health started deteriorating and she died of multiple organ failure.
People took to social media to express their views on the news. While some are slamming the husband for letting his wife, a mother to a young boy, donate her liver, others are standing in support of the husband believing that the woman wasn't forced to do so.
A user wrote on X, "What type of the husband and family they were.. such a young lady was made to give liver to 65 yrs MIL ‘s sister.. why she was not convinced to not to give since she had small kid.. selfish family."
Another user, Shiva Mudgil, expressing condolences wrote, "Hats of to the donor but she has a 4 year old kid. No surgery comes without a risk. Her husband might marry and find a companion but the child wont have a mother."
Echoing similar sentiments, another user wrote, "Why is social media trying to portray late Archana as a hero? She was a 33 year old with a 4 year old son. The husband will remarry. Son lost her mother."
"A 33 year old donates 60% of the liver to a 63 year old. Who does that? Selfish family including husband well planned moves."
Others stated that the woman was likely forced into giving her liver to the woman. One of the users wrote, "...poor women was simply coerced or groomed into giving her organ, her husband & inlaws are responsible for her untimely demise."
However, some of them came in support of the husband.
One of them wrote, "The replies under this is really sick. They are blaming her husband and abusing him without knowing the matter. Those who are from Mangalore know it . Poor husband is getting all kinds of abuse for no reason. Guys respect the deceased."
